Leaping over rocks and spikes: Our influence on sports in India

By: Sreeja Marupalli

We were able to give sports shoes to a sports club in India. This sports club participated in many sports, but they did not have shoes and that was a disadvantage. Kaveri a volleyball player said, “Before, I could not spike or jump. When you gave us these sports shoes, my jumping was much better, and I could spike hard and well.” Having these sports shoes to play sports helps with the ability of the players, but it also helps with safety and general enjoyment. Megana said, “We have been in the sports club for 3–4 years” before they got their sports shoes. She also admitted, “We get a lot of injuries like the ground and the rocks cutting our feet because of us not having shoes.” Playing sports without shoes and getting these types of injuries is not safe and makes these sports less fun overall. She said that “now, we don’t get these injuries” which is good for the safety and enjoyment of sports. Our non-profit helps these kids' welfare by providing them shoes to improve their skills for activities such as sports as well as improves the safety of these kids as well.
